The Brother ST531HD Strong & Tough sewing machine is built to handle everything from lightweight silks to up to six layers of denim. It features a durable metal frame, a metal needle plate for smoother fabric feeding, heavy duty needles for thicker fabrics, and a metal finger guard. Included are 53 unique built-in stitches, with blind hem, stretch, overcasting and decorative stitches, and an easy to use, one-step auto-size buttonhole. The ST531HD comes complete with 6 sewing feet, including a spring action zigzag foot, nonstick, blind stitch, zipper, buttonhole, and button sewing feet. This machine also has a built-in easy needle threader, jam-resistant Quick-Set drop-in top bobbin, automatic bobbin winding system, a free arm for sewing cuffs and sleeves, and an instructional DVD to get you started.

Metal finger guard
The detachable metal finger guard helps prevent fingers from getting caught under the needle. This is useful for beginners, and for sewing at higher speeds.

Easy threading system
Just touch the lever on the side of the machine, and the ST531HD automatically pushes the thread right through the needle.

Heavyweight needles
Included are a #16 needle for heavyweight fabrics such as denim and canvas, a #14 needle for fabric layers, and a #11 needle for everyday sewing.

Select from the most popular stitches for everyday sewing, with blind hem, decorative and zigzag stitches. Easily adjust the stitch width and length with the control dials.
